Job Description

Communications Specialist [JRP-06292]

At Plains, we believe in the value energy brings to people, communities, and businesses—today and for generations to come. That’s why our employees are dedicated to playing a vital role in transporting North American energy to where it’s needed.

Through our team of more than 4,000 employees and our extensive network of infrastructure and assets across the United States and Canada, we move more than 8 million barrels per day of crude oil and natural gas liquids to power communities, spark innovation, and fuel quality of life.

We are currently seeking to hire a Communications Specialist. In this role, you will be a communications generalist who works in partnership with Communications colleagues to develop and execute strategies to keep Plains’ internal and external stakeholders informed and engaged. You will develop compelling communications materials and support the effective cascade of information, with a focus on tailoring messages to the intended audience.

You will join a team that spans North America and is comprised of dynamic, high-performing colleagues from diverse professional backgrounds who are responsible for the representation of Plains to numerous audiences. The team interacts across multiple disciplines within the organization and is well-integrated with company leadership. As a group, we share a vision to develop and deliver compelling messaging to help stakeholders understand the role, value and long-range potential of our employees, business, and industry in today’s evolving energy landscape.

The selected candidate will be eligible for company benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off (PTO), and Free Parking.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute internal and external corporate communications related to company and department activities
  • Create and manage content for the company intranet, newsletters, and other employee communications
  • Create and/or maintain company reference materials such as a company tool kit, evergreen collateral, templates, multimedia assets and brand guidelines
  • Support company video, photography, and design needs
  • Contribute to social media content creation, website updates and digital analytics tracking
  • Review and edit communications drafted by other internal teams for clarity, tone, and alignment with company messaging
  • Assist with planning and execution of employee meetings, other internal events, and corporate volunteer and philanthropy activities
  • Provide communications support for Plains’ public affairs, government relations and stakeholder engagement efforts
  • Participate in crisis communications training and, in the event of an incident, support response activities as needed
  • Help define and internally promote the adoption of communications best practices
  • Monitor and evaluate communication efforts using metrics, analytics, and employee feedback to optimize strategies

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in Communications or a related discipline, and a minimum of 3 years of prior related experience
  • Familiar with PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Adobe Creative Suite or Canva is preferred
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills, including strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Highly motivated and action-oriented, with a natural tendency to seek out opportunities to contribute
  • Ability to quickly grasp business concepts and efficiently translate them into easy-to-understand communications materials
  • Proven ability to prioritize, problem-solve, multi-task and handle deadlines
  • Comfort and composure working under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Highest standard of personal integrity and respect for maintaining confidentiality
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
