Position Overview
The A Level Biology Teacher is responsible for delivering an engaging, rigorous, and student-centred Biology curriculum to secondary students preparing for international qualifications. The successful candidate will inspire a passion for biological sciences, foster critical thinking and scientific inquiry, and support students in achieving outstanding academic outcomes while contributing to the wider life of a dynamic bilingual school community.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality Biology lessons for A Level students in accordance with the school's curriculum and examination board requirements (Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel, or equivalent).
Prepare students effectively for external examinations through well-structured teaching, practical investigations, and regular assessment.
Develop students' understanding of biological concepts through inquiry-based learning, experimentation, data analysis, and independent research.
Deliver engaging laboratory practicals while ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed.
Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of students with a range of abilities and learning styles.
Integrate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
Promote scientific literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Assessment and Reporting
Design and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with curriculum standards.
Monitor student progress using assessment data to inform teaching and provide targeted support.
Maintain accurate records of student achievement and attendance.
Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate progress effectively with parents and school leadership.
Prepare detailed academic reports in accordance with school policies.
Curriculum Development
Contribute to the ongoing review and development of the Biology curriculum.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure progression across Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and A Level programmes where applicable.
Develop engaging laboratory activities and enrichment opportunities that promote scientific investigation.
Support interdisciplinary learning initiatives where appropriate.
Student Support
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, resilience, and academic excellence.
Act as a tutor or homeroom teacher if required.
Provide academic mentoring and university guidance related to Biology and life sciences pathways.
Support students participating in Biology Olympiads, science fairs, research projects, and other academic competitions.
Extracurricular Activities
Lead or support science clubs, enrichment programmes, and fieldwork opportunities.
Participate in school events, open days, parent conferences, and educational visits.
Contribute to the wider extracurricular programme and school community.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, teaching licence, or equivalent).
Strong subject knowledge across molecular biology, genetics, ecology, physiology, evolution, and practical laboratory techniques.
Essential Experience
Experience teaching A Level Biology or an equivalent international curriculum.
Proven ability to prepare students successfully for external examinations.
Experience delivering practical laboratory lessons safely and effectively.
Experience teaching in an international or bilingual school is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
